After the launch of Gmail by Google.com which offered up to 1GB of storage for its free mail service other major players like HotMail by Microsoft (250mb), YahooMail (100mb), and Ask Jeeves, who increased email storage capacity for users of its Excite, My Way, and iWon portals (125mb) as well. Gmail account invitations have been selling for as much as $63.00 on eBay with hundreds on the auction block each day. Gmail has raised the bar significantly not only by the size of their mailbox but also by the search capabilities that will come with a Gmail account. The other free mail service providers are racing to add or improve many new features including anti-spam filtering, email management as well as other storage space for image files or personal websites. All of this competition is great for the consumer and good for the growth of the internet as well.
